The Future Health Summit brings together policy, research and investment to explore how health systems can anticipate risk and prevent disease
Earlier identification of health risks is at the centre of Abu Dhabi’s healthcare agenda this week as international leaders gather to examine how advances in data, science and technology can support more preventive care.
The Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit, taking place at ADNEC from 20–22 October, brings together policymakers, healthcare providers, researchers, technology developers and investors under the theme “To Sense is to Predict”.
More than 175 organisations are showcasing innovations spanning artificial intelligence, genomics, precision medicine, digital health, advanced diagnostics and life sciences.
The programme covers longevity and precision health, health-system resilience and sustainability, digital health and AI, and investment in life sciences. An opening discussion examines the policy and financing along with delivery changes needed to anticipate illness and intervene sooner.
From research to care
The summit’s central question extends beyond the ability to collect more information. Health systems must determine how emerging insights can lead to timely clinical decisions and services that benefit patients.
Abu Dhabi’s approach connects research and regulatory capabilities with its shared data infrastructure, including the Malaffi health information exchange and Emirati Genome Programme. The ambition is to provide an environment in which new approaches can move through research and testing into clinical application.
Agreements announced during the summit include research with Isomorphic Labs on AI-enabled drug discovery and a programme with WHOOP investigating wearable data and personalised prevention.
The WHOOP collaboration will initially examine the combination of continuous measurements and coaching for adults with obesity and high blood pressure. The Isomorphic Labs agreement proposes a 24-month roadmap for selected pre-clinical discovery projects.
A year-round initiative
The gathering is the annual flagship event of Future Health – A Global Initiative by Abu Dhabi, which brings together clinical, scientific and technological expertise with investment.
The summit provides a meeting point for those different responsibilities but its effects continue throughout the year. The inaugural Future Health Challenge attracted 393 submissions from 68 countries, while the initiative has published white papers on longevity and healthy living.
This wider programme reflects the need to sustain work between international gatherings, particularly where research and implementation require several years.
