Abu Dhabi Connects University Learning With Healthcare Innovation

M42 and NYU Abu Dhabi will open internships and research opportunities across care, science and technology

M42 and New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) have agreed to give students more opportunities to work alongside healthcare professionals and researchers, linking university education with practical experience in health innovation.

The memorandum of understanding, announced on 10 September, covers internships, research opportunities and mentorship across areas of care, biomedical science and health technology.

Opportunities will be open to NYUAD students and visiting students from NYU’s campuses in New York and Shanghai.  Planned activities include project work with M42 experts, alongside potential research collaboration and exchanges through seminars and workshops.

The organisations intend the partnership to help students understand how patient needs connect with scientific research and digital innovation.  The agreement was signed at the university’s Abu Dhabi campus by senior representatives from both institutions.

“Building the future of healthcare requires us to invest not only in breakthrough technologies and scientific discovery, but in the people who will put them into practice,” says Andreas Fagher, Group Chief Human Capital Officer at M42.  “Through our collaboration with NYU Abu Dhabi, we are connecting students with real-world healthcare expertise and experiences that will help develop future talent while advancing Abu Dhabi’s ambitions in life sciences and health innovation.”

The collaboration brings NYUAD’s academic and research expertise together with M42’s healthcare network. It is intended to help students understand the connections between patient needs and developments in biomedical science and digital health.

By bringing together NYUAD’s academic and research strengths with M42’s healthcare ecosystem, the collaboration is intended to give students a clearer understanding of how patient needs, workforce development, biomedical science and digital innovation intersect across the sector.

“NYU Abu Dhabi’s research in Artificial Intelligence drives technological advances but goes so much further; our expertise spans every aspect of AI’s impact on life and society,” says Fabio Piano, Vice Chancellor of NYU Abu Dhabi.

Under the agreement, M42 and NYUAD will expand opportunities for students through internships, research, mentorship and experiential learning, including engagement with M42 experts and project-based work across relevant areas of care, science and technology. These opportunities will be open to NYUAD students, as well as visiting students from NYU New York and NYU Shanghai, helping connect classroom study with practical experience across medicine, biomedical science and health technology.

The agreement also provides for knowledge exchange through potential research collaboration, seminars and workshops, alongside engagement with healthcare professionals across M42’s network.
